Last week was a busy week so I’m sorry this is a little off
schedule. Last weeks books were good. I unfortunately missed getting Saga #38
so I can’t say that is was all that I had hoped for or not. But there were a
couple of standout issues for me from last week that I can talk about. I must
warn that there may be spoilers ahead. I will try my best not to include
spoilers but just in case be warned.
Teen Titans: Rebirth #1 by Benjamin Percy with art by Marie
Javins was overall a good issue. The team had disbanded after some recent
events and the book starts its focus on them doing their own thing trying to
cope with that happened (I am not going into what happened since it would be a
spoiler). At the end of each story section we find someone is kidnapping each
of them. The writing does a good job creating a since of mystery on who is
doing this and it is reveled on the last page. A problem I personally had was
the reveal is almost spoiled (If you don’t want to be spoiled then stop reading
here since I probably will spoil it) by the cover of the issue. I plan on
continuing to read Teen Titans but I personally don’t feel that the major story
piece should be plastered on the cover.
The other comic that was pick of the week worthy was Captain
America: Steve Rogers #5 written by Nick Spencer and art by Javier Pina. This
is such a new take on Steve as a character. He currently is a secret Hydra
agent working to take down SHIELD from the inside out. But what the Red Skull
doesn’t know is that Steve has his own agenda for Hydra. This issue is a
crossover story with the current even Civil War 2, which finds Steve worried
about the new Inhuman blowing his plans and exposing him. We learn that events
that have occurred in the main story are not as they appear and that Steve may
have influenced those events to protect what he is trying to accomplish.
Also to catch up this week I am including my pull list for
this week 10/5!
October is always the beginning of a new status for the
Marvel universe and this October is no different. Titles will end and new ones
will start which is usually when I reassess my pull list for the shop. So we
will see many new names and number 1 issues on the list but they may not last.
I am kind of picky about not just story but artwork as well. If I don’t like
the art or find that art inside the book is confusing or hard to look at then I
will stop reading.
All-New Wolverine #13
Deadpool: Back in Black #1
Deadpool: Back in Black #1
Death of X #1
Green Lanterns #8
Harley Quinn #5
Invincible Iron Man #14
Jessica Jones #1
Uncanny X-Men #14
and Saga #38!
Death of X #1 written by Jeff Lemire and art by Charles
Soule is the lead in to the next big Marvel event. Something happened that put
the Mutants and Inhumans on a path of competition and hatred toward each other.
I hope to find out what happened to adult Cyclops and how he died along with
what will lead to each race to go into all out war with each other!
Jessica Jones hasn’t had her own regular series in almost
ten years. I personally think that after her successful Netflix series this new
run should have happened sooner. With Brian Michael Bendis writing I know it
will be good. I personally hope it has a Dick Tracy detective mystery type vibe
since she is know for running a detective agency.
What is everyone else reading this week? Are you excited for anything new coming out? Did you watch Jessica Jones on Netflix? Would you read her comic because you watched her show?
